There are so many gorgeous places in Provence that this site could not pay a tribute to them all. Yet, it can try...

This monument looks like a kind of Pisa Tower, isn't it ?

But it is not.

In fact it is just a kind of staircase to the top of the belfry, probably to service the roof, or polish the bells, or some petty maintenance job of that kind. But it looks impressive, and the peasants must have been awed by the power of the local lord, as everywhere else in feudal France.

There were two lords, in Uzès. The religious, and the secular one. The Bishop of Uzès just wanted you to give your money to him, sorry, to the Church. The other one the Duck, sorry, the Duke, wanted the same thing, but he probably also would not mind applying his droit de cuissage, on all new brides. This amiable tradition consisted of the lord sleeping with the bride first, just to check if she was really a virgin. And deflower her subsequently.

So the Bishop lived in this Bishopry :

Of course, you cannot see it, because it is behind the high wall on the left. You could not really see what was inside the Duke's Palace, either. He just wanted you to know that he had total power on you and that your house was real shit, whereas his was the shit, actually :

He put his blason on the roof so that the medieval planes mind his Palace and not crash on it inadvertently, when the pilot had his underpants checked by the air hostesses, for example, and didn't pay anymore attention to the job at hand, his steering-rod being in the care of the female staff member kneeling in front of him.

We had lots of fun in Uzès, despite the heat, which was very hot, and the donkey attack, near the end. These fiendish animals took the whole town by surprise and by storm. They made many prisoners and killed the rest of the non-complying residents and tourists.

Having always been very friendly with donkeys, as I work with them everyday in my trade, being a teacher, I could save both our lives, but we were really lucky.

See how nasty this one looks ?

Ok, these are the photos, without any caption or whatever, because I don't know how to put them under the photos, and anyway, it would take too long, and I am not paid to do it.
