It was a cold day, but we decided to go to a place in Ardèche, where there is an impressive waterfall called "La Cascade du Ray-Pic". But....

We could not access the car park. There were barriers all around it.

Why ?

I don't know, but there had probably been stones falling from the top of the mountain as well as water, and the trail to access the site was certainly not safe enough for people to take it.

Anyway, on the way to this invisible warterfall, which we will try to see at another time, we stopped in a village called Burzet.

The Monte-Carlo rally always goes through it in winter time, because it is really a part of Ardèche in which it snows and the road there stays covered with snow or at least ice for several weeks sometimes. Hence it is a perfect place to test the driving abilities of any pilot out there. And it is fun when he slides out of the road and kills two or three morons just standing there.

And there are also lots of curves everywhere. It is said that in these places there is no such thing as a road going straight for more than 100 meters. Or someone going straight without a drink for more than one hour.

Pretty desolate place isn't it ?

There seemed to be a kind of steeple at the top, but we did not want to climb up there to check, because it was very cold. The wind was blowing and it contained what felt like icy razor blades. If that ever means something. Look at Atsuko in her nice hiking gear, complete with the knit cap she was wearing when she was 12 years old :

She does a good job at pretending she enjoys herself, doesn't she ?

This is another lame picture from that day. I suppose up above the river was the favourite spot for suicidal persons who wanted to get rid of both the cold and their stupid meaningless lives in this shithole of a village. They may have used metal bars from the local derelict factories to shape up a nice little hanging device.

Anyway, after not finding the shit waterfall, we just ended up in a more depressing place than Chernobyl.

There was nothing else to see there, I'm afraid. Even mushrooms looked unhealthy and grew in the strangest places, like warts at some other places than witches' noses. Look at that :

Don't go to Burzet. That village stinks.
