We went to Saou the same day as we went to Crest. The beginning of the afternoon was not very nice, it had rained just before we left Montélimar...

Saou is a very impressive place and the photo below shows a bit of its splendour, from the distance :

There are many people who go there to practice rock-climbing, because of the steep slopes you can find there.

The above view was taken just when we arrived into the village. ss851122

Yes, the road goes right through a kind of big house ! There were walls covering the road a long time ago, and thy were demolished so that the road be built. Don't believe me ? Look below. This snapshot was taken from the road :

There are other strange houses in this area, and the most interesting one was built by a former industrialist, specialized in the tobacco business. He created the park which can be seen below, at the turn of the 19th century. It jhas now become a very popular picnic place and recration area for the people living in the regieon :

On the right of the above photo, there is an immense grassy area where people enjoy playing imrovised football games or just sit and relax during a spring afternoon. There are lots of people on the path because it was an open day for this :

The tobacco man was a bit posh and wanted to create something impressive in his park, so he decided to have the Petit Trianon copied and built there. It was his little Palace of Versailles, in a way...

While we were there we enjoyed another part of the park, which you can see below :

I really love this place, and i think Atsuko appreciated it very much, too. I hope you feel the same and will be lucky enough to visit that part of France we are living in, because it is gorgeous.

By the way there was also an old cars' exhibition, and I had the pleasure to see some of the cars that I liked when I was a kid. These include these all-time favourites :

My dad had such a car, and it was fast and comfortable. Atsuko would have  liked to drive it :).

Look at that beauty ! It has always been my favourite car, along with the Saab 900 Turbo. This DS Citroen was really a luxury car when it was released. And only rich people could afford it.

Ok, let's finish that article, in which I was very sane and polite, for once, with a last photo of that man's little Trianon :

Of course all the photos taken that day are below :
